Abike Dabiri appointed SSA on foreign affairs to Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the appointment of a former member of the House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as his Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora.

Abike Dabiri, a former broadcaster, was very vocal during the 2015 election and she was renowned for her various roles in the All Progressives Congress’ campaign. When she was in the 7th House of Representatives, she chaired the House Committee on the Diaspora. The appointment takes immediate effect.

Diamond Bank apologizes to Abike Dabiri for ‘erroneously’ identifying her as debtor

Diamond Bank Plc on Friday sponsored adverts in two national dailies to apologize to a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abike Dabiri- Erewa for listing her among its debtors.
The former broadcaster was earlier in the week listed as Director in Thriller Endeavours Ltd, which the bank said is indebted to it to the tune of N122 million.

However, Mrs. Dabiri-Erewa denied being a director in the said company or owing the bank and any other financial institution for that matter. The former lawmaker yesterday filed a suit before the Lagos State High Court, Igbosere, following the “irreparable damage” and embarrassment; the claim that she is a debtor has caused her. She asked the court to compel the bank to publicly apologize and also pay damages running to N500 million.

Responding, Diamond Bank apologized a day after for erroneously including her name as a director in a company owing their bank. According to the bank, “We refer to our publication of the list of major delinquent debtor customers which included the name of Thriller Endeavours Ltd and a further mention of the name of Hon. Abike Dabiri as a director of the Company.

“The inclusion of the name of Hon. Abike Dabiri (stated as director in Thriller Endeavours Ltd) was erroneous and is deeply regretted. “The Central Bank of Nigeria has been informed of this error. Hon. Abike Dabiri is not indebted to the bank in any capacity,” the bank stated.

Abike Dabiri slams N500m suit on Diamond Bank

Former House of Representatives member Abike Dabiri-Erewa, who represented Ikorodu Federal Constituency between 2003 and 2015 Thursday slammed a N500 milion libel suit on Diamond Bank Plc for maliciously publishing her name as one of the bank’s debtors.

Joined as co-defendant in the ensuing legal warfare is The Punch Newspapers Limited. In an affidavit sworn to by Abike Dabiri-Erewa and filed before the court by a Lagos lawyer Adetokunbo Mumuni, the ex-lawmaker averred that on the 4th of August, 2015,as early as 6 a. m. she was bombarded with calls, text messages and other social media networks telling her about a report in The Punch newspaper of that day which published a report that her company Thriller Endeavours is indebted to Diamond Bank Plc.

The report was on the front page of the newspapers alleging that her company Thriller Endeavours is indebted to the bank to the tune of N122,912,031.06. She averred further that she is neither a subscriber to the memorandum and article of association of the said Thriller Endeavours nor is a Director of the said company alleged to be owing Diamond Bank.

Consequently, she said the bank was engaging in mischief of deliberate kind to include her name as a Director of Thriller Endeavours when indeed and in truth she has nothing to do with the company, while The Punch newspaper engaged in monumental mischief when it published her name on pages 1, 21 and 31of its 4th August,2015 edition as person whose company was indebted to Diamond Bank Plc.

Dabiri averred further that as a well known politician the said publication has subjected her to public opprobrium, ridicule and embarrassment of monumental proportion. Consequently, she mandated her lawyer to forward a letter to the defendants for a retraction but they refused to comply with her demand.

In view of the foregoing, Dabiri’s claims against the defendants are as follows:
The sum of N500 million against the defendants jointly and severally as damages for the reputational injury she had suffered.

A declaration that the publication which has no foundation in truth, has defamed and injured her character and she has suffered reputational damage.

N3 million being the sum paid as professional fees to her solicitors.

An order of the court directing the defendants separately and jointly to render a public apology to her in respect of the false publication made which must be published in three national dailies in addition to The Punch newspaper.
