Breaking: At least 3 dead and 100 injured after train crashes into station wall (Photos)

At least three people are believed to have died and at least 100 have been injured after a train crashed ‘at full pace’ into a train station platform today. The commuter train crashed through New Jersey Transit Hoboken station during rush hour.

Most of those who have been injured are in a critical condition according to a New Jersey Transit spokesman. Many passengers were this afternoon still trapped in the wreckage of the carriages.

Hoboken is at the end of the line and is a commuter station with many passengers ending their journey there to get a boat across the Hudson to New York City.

Linda Albelli, 62, who was on the train, said ‘I noticed, “he’s not slowing up, we’re going too fast,” and with that there was this tremendous crash.’

Passengers described the train as going ‘at full force’ into the station, knocking down a large section of the building. Many of the walking wounded were seen covered in blood or sat on benches waiting to be treated by first responders.

The crash happened at New Jersey Transit Hoboken where many passengers were waiting for trains.
Images on social media show a train that appears to have gone through the bumper stop at the end of a track.

‘The next thing I know, we are ploughing through the platform,’ passenger Bhagyesh Shah told NBC New York. ‘It was for a couple seconds, but it felt like an eternity.’

He said the train was crowded, particularly the first two cars, because they make for an easy exit into the Hoboken station and onto the Path train. Passengers in the second car broke the emergency windows to get out.

‘I saw a woman pinned under concrete,’ Mr Shah told NBC New York. ‘A lot of people were bleeding; one guy was crying.’

Jay Danahy wrote on Twitter: ‘My train just ran full force into Hoboken Station.’ Another person from New York said: ‘Lucky to be alive… we in the second car of the train that crashed in Hoboken.’

Radio station WFAN anchor John Minko told New York radio station WINS that the train ‘went right through the barriers and into the reception area.’

Rail service was suspended in and out of Hoboken, which is 7 miles outside New York City. Hoboken is the final stop for several train lines, and the images show a train that appears to have gone through the bumper stop at the end of a track.

The train came to a halt in a covered area between the station’s indoor waiting area and the platform. A metal structure covering the area collapsed. The damage also appears to be significant with part of the structure of the building collapsing into heaps of twisted metal and bricks.

The Hoboken police chief has said there were ‘mass casualties’ while fire officials said the train appeared to have derailed.

Hoboken, which is New Jersey Transit’s fifth-busiest stations with 15,000 boardings per weekday, is the final stop for several train lines and a transfer point for many commuters on their way to New York City. More photos below....

BREAKING NEWS: One jihadi is shot dead and a woman suicide bomber blows herself up in gunfight at Paris

BREAKING NEWS: One jihadi is shot dead and a woman suicide bomber blows herself up in gunfight at Paris

Shots have been being exchanged in the large police operation in Saint-Denis which began early this morning

A female terrorist wearing a suicide vest has blown herself up and another jihadi is dead as more than 100 police and soldiers were today involved in a gunfight with up to six suspected Paris terrorists including the mastermind behind Friday's massacres.

SWAT teams and special forces have surrounded an apartment in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis - close to the Stade de France - in a siege that started at 4.30am this morning.

French media are reporting the architect of the plan that killed 129 people, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, 27, is alive and inside the flat - until now it was thought he was in Syria orchestrating the attack from ISIS capital Raqqa.

A female jihadi who may be Abaaoud's jihadi bride is said to have fired her AK-47 at police before blowing herself up as an assault squad stormed the apartment block. A rooftop sniper is believed to have shot dead another terror suspect through a window.

A police source said three suspects had been taken alive and arrested so far with security forces still trying to 'neutralise' more holed-up in the flat. An innocent person on the street may have been killed in the crossfire and up to four police may have been injured in the ferocious gunfight.

One of the nine suspected massacre shooters Salah Abdeslam, 26, who has been subject to an international manhunt after police inexplicably held then released him in the hours after the attack, may also be inside.

Teams of armed police appeared on a street outside the Saint-Denis flat before dawn today and then at least three trucks of soldiers and special forces arrived as back up.

Witnesses said there has been periods of intense machine gun fire and at least seven loud explosions, caused by the suicide bomber and possibly hand grenades, have been heard as the siege continues.

Breaking: Senator declares assets after Buhari example

A member of the Senate, Shehu Sani, who represents the central Kaduna constituency in northern Nigeria in the Senate, said he was worth 22 million naira and has several houses and cars. Sani on Monday became the first sitting member of the legislature to declare his assets publicly, following President Muhammadu Buhari’s example for greater transparency and accountability in the graft-riddled nation.

Sani, a human rights activist who heads the Civil Rights Congress lobby group, said his decision was prompted by Buhari’s “moral standard” for more openness in public life. In a statement, the lawmaker said greater openness was the only way to improve Nigeria’s reputation at home and abroad, which has long been tainted by corruption.

“The international image of Nigeria as a corrupt country and its political elites as patently corrupt cannot be cleansed unless and until all elected and appointed public office holders come publicly clean as to their quantity and sources of wealth,” he said.

Sani, from Buhari’s governing All Progressives Congress party, was jailed for pro-democracy activities by former military ruler Sani Abacha, who died in 1998, ushering a return to civilian rule the following year.
