How Fayose, others made me PDP Chairman – Modu Sheriff

The Peoples Democratic Party national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff yesterday gave an insight into how he emerged the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, revealing that Governor Ayodele Fayose and those he described as ‘other Nigerians’ made him assume the position.

Sheriff , however, didn’t disclose the identities of the ‘other Nigerians’ that worked for his ascension into his new office. This was as the governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, said President Muhammadu Buhari was superintending over a super-corrupt government, contrary to what he makes the public to believe that he was a man of integrity.

Sheriff spoke in Ado Ekiti on Thursday at the PDP secretariat being part of his visit to the state to consolidate his hold on the party. The ex-Borno governor promised to reignite the fortunes of the party back to what it used to be in 1999, when it was a darling party among Nigerians.

”Let me thank Governor Fayose for his efforts to keep our party on ground in Ekiti. It is God that used to make a leader and that was why God commanded in the Holy bible and Qur’an that He should be allowed to choose a leader for the people.

“I never wanted or thought of being chairman , but I was sleeping in my house when governor Fayose called me from Port Harcourt and said I was going to be the new National Chairman. This to me, was a miracle.

“With what I witnessed yesterday, it was obvious that God Chose Fayose for Ekiti people , because of his popularity among them. He was taken to the prison and eight years after, he came back. People won’t be happy with the governor if he had not been fair to them”.

Sheriff added that “In keeping PDP together, I am not going to insult anybody , we will only do this by allowing the people to choose their leaders through credible elections”, he said. He promised that the PDP will remain a strong party in Nigeria through proper rebranding and by bringing aggrieved members back to rejoin the fold.

Fayose, who said his government will continue to criticize Buhari, stated that, “he promised Nigerians 10 million jobs, but it has turned out to be 10 million job lost. He increased electricity tariff , putting PDP members in handcuffs while Boko Haram suspects are walking free. It is only a sectional leader that does this.

“Buhari accused PDP of corruption, but today he is superintending over a super corrupt government”, he said.

Tactically referring to why he supported Sheriff, Fayose said: “ we want a leader who has a second address to pilot our affairs , because some of those who were raising their voices under ex-President, Goodluck Jonathan have gone underground because of fear and what they will eat.

“We know you have the capacity to restore the PDP and make it survive. You have the means and experience and we promise that we will always stand by you.

Fayose’s aide reveals how arrest order was issued on Aluko

Media aide to Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, Lere Olayinka, has averred that nobody should link his principal with the arrest order issued by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, on the former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, Dr. Temitope Aluko.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with DAILY POST, Olayinka called for the course of justice to be followed strictly on the matter, stressing that “We should not run a society where somebody will go to court last year to say something and come back to say something else.”

While exonerating Governor Fayose from instigating the arrest warrant, he explained, “a lawyer in Ado Ekiti here, Olowulafe Sunday, wrote a petition to the Attorney General of Ekiti state and you should know that the Attorney General of Ekiti also has the power to prosecute an offender.

“So based on the petition of that lawyer, there is no how the Attorney General of a state can prosecute crime without the police first investigating what was alleged. It is on this basis that the Attorney General approached the court to give an order that the police should arrest and investigate him (Aluko) so that he can be prosecuted.”

Dr. Aluko had last week claimed that what transpired in the 2014 governorship election in the state was a high level of manipulation, claiming that the military was used to rig the election in favour of Fayose. He also alleged that former President, Goodluck Jonathan gave $37m to Fayose to use in prosecuting the election.

Meanwhile, Olayinka disclosed that the arrest order came as a result of allegations of perjury, stating that the embattled former PDP chief had earlier testified before the tribunal that the election that brought in Fayose was devoid of irregularities.

Lai Mohammed must name 15 ex-Governors, 55 Nigerians that stole N1.34tr – Fayose

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has challenged the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed to either disclosed the names of the 15 former governor and other Nigerians he claimed stole N1.34trn between 2006 and 2013 or keep his mouth shut permanently.

This was as he described as disgraceful the putting of handcuffs on the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh, when he appeared in court, stressing that even the masterminds of Madala and Nyanya bomb blasts, Kabiru Sokoto and Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche were not handcuffed when they were arraigned in court.

The Governor, in a release issued on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said it was funny that close to one year after it won the presidential election, the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress, APC, federal government was still operating as if it was campaigning for votes.

According to him, “The reality is that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government has destroyed the economy within eight months in power and rather than look for solutions to the problems facing Nigeria, Lai Mohammed and his cohorts are branding bogus figures about
stolen money just to cover up their lack of solution to the country’s economic problems.”

The Governor went further to state that “They are turning governance to Nollywood, such that when one movie is about to end, they release another one. As it appears that the $2.1 billion arms deal movie is getting to an end, Lai Mohammed introduced another movie titled; N1.34 trillion loot.

“Unfortunately for them this time around, Nigerians have become tired of watching the Federal Government movies, they now want reality. Nigerians are now aware of the scam in the $2.1 billion arms deal movie having seen that the amount those already charged to court were charged with is not more than N10 billion and $2.1 billion is over N600 billion.

“Therefore, Lai Mohammed must either tell Nigerians details of the 15 former governors and 55 people that he claimed stole N1.34 trillion, where the stolen money is kept and bring back the money or apologise to Nigerians for lying.”

While dismissing the persistent claim by the federal government that the PDP destroyed Nigeria for 16 years as hypocritical, the Governor stressed that Nigerians must begin to ask which party majority of those presently ruling the country under the APC government were between 1999 and 2014.

“Majority of those who ran the Federal Government between 1999 and 2003 under the PDP are in the APC government today. President, vice president, ministers, governors, senators and House of Reps members who were part of the PDP government are now in APC. Yet, APC keeps telling Nigerians that PDP ruined the country.
This hypocrisy must stop,” he said.

Fayose, who insisted that due process of the law must be followed in fighting corruption, noted that disobedience to court orders itself is a criminal offence that is more grievous than corruption.

He said no amount of harassment and intimidation will silence opposition in the country, saying President Buhari and his men should rather get used to the reality that opposition must exist in a democracy.
