British woman faces jail in Dubai after placing a man's glasses in a bin while he fought her friends

A British woman is facing jail in Dubai after her friends got into a fight with a Swedish tech executive, when he caught them taking selfies with him as he was sleeping in a hotel lobby.

Asa Hutchinson, 21, claims she was not involved in the fight with the Swede, and had only picked up the man's glasses from the floor and 'put them in the bin because she was worried someone would step on them'.

Ms Hutchinson, originally from Chelmsford, Essex, says that as her friends were just visiting tourists, and she is living in Dubai, she has ended up facing charges of assault and theft alone.

Her mother Lucie Harrison has today defended her daughter, saying she is 'absolutely and completely innocent'.

'She was there at the time but all she did was pick some glasses up off the floor and put them in the bin because she was worried someone would step on them.

Ms Hutchinson herself has said that she and her friends had been to a brunch at Dusty's in Dubai's International Financial Centre district when they spotted a man who had fallen asleep on a sofa.

She describes how her friends began taking selfies with the sleeping man, Swedish a technology company executive in his 50s, when he suddenly woke up.

According to Ms Hutchinson, the man became angry and began punching her friends.

'The man woke up and began punching the boys. I heard the commotion and came back to see what was going on.'

The group left, but unbeknownst to them, the unnamed Swedish man contacted police.

'He called the police and made official complaints about the boys for taking pictures of him, and for being rude.'

Police obtained the group's names from the reservations list of the hotel restaurant and they were called in to a police station.

Ms Hutchinson says her friends managed to get their passports back by paying cash deposits, before flying home to the UK, but as an expat living in Dubai, she has ended up taking the full hit on their behalf.

She has been charged with assault and theft - the man is accusing her of having stolen his glasses them - and there is a real threat of a custodial sentence.

Ms Hutchinson, a key account manager for a transportation company, says: 'It is so unfair, I was not involved, I just happened to be there, but the police are not interested in anything I have to say.

'Once the man made his complaint it was taken as fact. I can't go to jail, I couldn't cope.'

Her mother, added: 'You always worry about your kids, especially in these Middle Eastern countries.

'There is so much on the news about the way they treat British visitors, but Asa was having a great time.

'She loved the work and made so many friends - she is a quiet, sensible girl and really is the last person to start any trouble.'

'What I find really upsetting is that Asa has not turned her back and run away- she was saying, I've done nothing.

'She's really taking the rap, those guys in Dubai really seem to do things by association, I just find the whole thing so shocking.

'I'm just very concerned about her. Police have taken her passport, so won't even be able to take out money.

'I'm very concerned about her mental health now because she's very anxious.'

Her father Iain has added his concerns: 'This older guy was the one hitting everyone, he ought to know better at his age than getting into drunken fights with kids.

'And now he can't throw his weight around and get them into trouble, he is picking on my young daughter.'

Radha Stirling, CEO of Detained in Dubai, the organisation representing Ms Hutchinson, said: 'Visitors to the UAE need to be aware that justice does not operate the same way as it does in countries with mature legal systems.

'In Dubai, if two parties are in dispute or arguing, the first person to speak to the police is usually the one who is believed.

'Often it is a race to get to the police first.

'By making this complaint, the man may have been safeguarding himself from being charged himself.

'Also, it is clear in this case that Asa was a bystander, not involved with the fight and is only being victimised because the alleged culprits have left the country.'

Bosnian war chief commit suicide in court

Former Bosnian-Croat military leader Slobodan Praljak, 72, yelled, 'I am not a war criminal!' and appeared to drink from a small bottle, seconds after losing his appeal at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, in The Hague, Netherlands. 

According to Croatian state television, the 72-year-old has since died in hospital - and the court room has been declared a crime scene. 

Praljak is one of six Croatian politicians sentenced to jail for their involvement in a campaign to drive Muslims out of a would-be Bosnian Croat mini-state in Bosnia in the early 1990s.

Mugabe finally quits as president of Zimababwe ending 37 years of dictatorship

Robert Mugabe has quit as leader of Zimbabwe. Wild celebrations are said to have broken out as impeachment proceedings were called to a close, Zimbabwe’s parliament speaker Jacob Mudenda announced. Wild jubilation broke out among MPs when Mudenda told the House. 

In his official resignation statement he said: ‘I Robert Gabriel Mugabe hereby formally tender my resignation as President of Zimbabwe with immediate effect.’

He faced mounting pressure to step down after the country’s ruling party, Zanu PF, sacked him on Sunday morning. Zimbabwe war veterans leader Chris Mutsvangwa said Mugabe would be replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa, the deputy who he sacked earlier this month. 

The 93-year-old leader was expected to resign in a televised speech on Sunday night – but he left Zimbabweans stunned when avoided any mention of resignation during his rambling address.

Instead, he told viewers he intended to preside over a congress of ZANU-PF next month. The party had threatened to impeach him if he failed to quit before 12 noon on Monday – but he missed the deadline. Impeachment proceedings began on Tuesday when Zimbabwe’s Parliament opened.

Isis has been destroyed, declares Iranian President

The end of Islamic State has been declared by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. The leader announced the news in an address broadcast live on state TV today.

A senior commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, Major General Qassem Soleimani, also declared the end of Islamic State in a message sent to the country’s supreme leader. The messaged was published on Sepah News, the news site of the Guards. Videos and pictures of Soleimani, who commands the Quds Force, have been posted frequently by Iranian media in recent years.

The Quds Force is the unit responsible for operations outside of Iran’s borders at frontline positions in battles against Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Last week, Iranian media published pictures of Soleimani at Albu Kamal in eastern Syria, a town which Soleimani said was the last territory retaken from Islamic State control in the region.

The Revolutionary Guards has been fighting in support of Syrian president Bashar al-Assad and the central government in Baghdad for several years. It is Iran’s most powerful military force, which also oversees an economic empire worth billions of dollars. More than a thousand members of the Guards, including senior commanders, have been killed in Syria and Iraq.

Magnitude 7 earthquake off coast of Australia sparks tsunami warning

A powerful 7.0-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of New Caledonia on Monday, triggering a brief tsunami warning and evacuation alert but causing no significant damage, local officials said. 

The US Geological Survey said the shallow tremor hit approximately 82 kilometres east of the lightly populated Loyalty Islands at around 09.45 am (10.45pm GMT).

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center initially issued an alert saying areas within 180 miles could be affected, including Vanuatu and New Caledonia, whose capital Noumea sits some 250 kilometres east of the epicentre. It said that tsunami waves had been ‘observed’ but gave no location or further detail.

Sirens sounded briefly along coastal areas of the Loyalty Islands with some residents told to evacuate. However, after an hour they were advised to resume normal activities but to remain vigilant for aftershocks.

There have been no immediate reports of damage. Pierre Lebellegard, a seismologist for the French Research Institute for Development, told AFP the Loyalty Islands had been seismically active for the past three weeks. ‘They must be very frightened in Mare,’ he told AFP, referring to the main island where over 5,600 people live. 

He added that such quake clusters ‘happen every 10 to 15 years’ in the area. Nervous residents reported feeling several tremors throughout the night before the quake hit.

Convicted killer and cult leader Charles Manson dead at 83

Cult leader Charles Manson, whose followers killed actress Sharon Tate and six others in 1969, has died. He was 83. A spokeswoman for the California Department of Corrections says Manson died of natural causes last night. 

The gory slayings horrified the world and revealed a violent underbelly of a counterculture that preached peace and love. The killings occurred on successive August nights and terrorised the city of Los Angeles. Tate, who was nearly nine months pregnant, was found stabbed repeatedly in her Hollywood mansion, along with several of her friends. 

Other victims included coffee heiress Abigail Folger and celebrity hair stylist Jay Sebring. The next night a wealthy couple was killed in a similar fashion. Investigators learned Manson sent a group of disaffected young followers to commit murder as part of a twisted, quasi-religious belief that it would launch a race war.

Charles Manson, dubbed father of the world’s worst family, has died aged 83. His clutch of deranged disciples, known as the Manson Family, gained notoriety after committing a string of ritualistic murders in California in the late 1960s. 

Their most high-profile victim was actress Sharon Tate – wife of famed director Roman Polanski – who was mercilessly gutted when almost nine months pregnant. The octogenarian cult leader, who had a Swastika etched between his eyebrows, spent the past four decades in prison – barely making a dent in his nine life-sentences. 

He was born Charles Milles Maddox on November 12 1934 in Ohio to a 16-year-old, drug-addict prostitute mother. Shunned by mum Kathleen – who briefly married a man called William Manson – the nascent sociopath spent much of his early life in prison. “The only thing that my mother taught me was that everything that she said was a lie,” he claimed. 

It is thought he never met his father, a colonel. In 1955, he moved to the land of promise California with a 17-year-old lover in tow, settling into a routine of theft and incarceration in San Francisco. Manson was jailed for 10 years for forgery and released in 1967 – the year before he orchestrated a killing frenzy that would scorch his name into history.

Caught in a swirl of hallucinogenic drugs, belief in the apocalypse, and an impending race war, the deluded narcissist recruited burned-out, malleable, middle-class followers. The Family, as they became known, lived on isolated ranches – one in Death Valley – and grew drunk on Manson’s claim to be a prophet sent to warn of the coming ‘Helter Skelter’ ethnic conflict. 

The charismatic visionary would pump his slavish followers with LSD and re-enact the crucifixion while they were tripping, former cult members said. Whatever he believed, they would too. On August 9 1969, at Polanski’s glitzy Los Angeles home, five people, including the heavily pregnant Sharon Tate, 26, were tied up and massacred by Family members. 

They were stabbed collectively 102 times. Tate, who was repeatedly knifed in the stomach, had her blood used to write the word “pig” on the front door. The horrifying episode was followed by a double-murder the following night of a supermarket executive and his wife; the two-day spree became known as the Tate/LaBianca killings. 

Other celebrities including Frank Sinatra, Elizabeth Taylor and Steve McQueen were reportedly targets for The Family. Speaking in a documentary, a charged-up Manson said: ‘When I stand on the mountain and I say do it! It gets done …’ 

Manson thought if the murders were pinned on black people, an ‘eschatological race war’ would follow, and with The Family safe in a subterranean lair, they could emerge as the only white people in the world and then rule over it. The keen musician called the end-times episode the ‘Helter Skelter’, after the song from The Beatles. 

Acolyte Susan Atkins told an inmate they wanted to ‘do a crime that would shock the world’. The proceedings mesmerised the city of Los Angeles and made global headlines. Manson released an album called Lie to raise money for his legal defence and arrived at hearings with an X carved on his forehead that later mutated into a Swastika. 

After a seven-month trial, Manson and four followers were convicted and received the death penalty in 1971; yet a year later the penalty was temporarily abolished and the sentences changed to life imprisonment. He showed no remorse for his crimes. 

Speaking to journalist Diane Sawyer for a documentary, Manson said: ‘I see blood in here every day … I’ve lived it all my life, woman. That don’t wrinkle up my forehead. ‘You could pile up 100 dead bodies in front of my cell and it don’t set me to do nothing.’ At its height, The Family reportedly had around 100 members and was a mix of both men and women. 

Manson was married twice and had at least two children, although the real figure could be higher. A besotted woman, Afton Burton, dated Manson when he was in jail, and applied for a marriage licence when she was 26 and he was 80 in 2014 – although it expired. 

After months of failing health, he died from natural causes at Kern County Hospital in Bakersfield, California at 8.13pm on Sunday.

Mugabe has just hours to quit before he is impeached

President Robert Mugabe has just hours to quit as leader of Zimbabwe, or he faces being impeached. The ruling ZANU-PF party has given Mugabe until noon local time – 10am in the UK – to stand down.

If he fails to do so, ZANU-PF will begin impeachment proceedings. The 93-year-old leader defied expectations last night that he would resign in a televised ‘exit speech’. He stunned Zimbabweans in the rambling address by avoiding any mention of resignation. 

Instead, he told viewers he intended to preside over a congress next month of ZANU-PF, which sacked him as its leader on Sunday morning. Mugabe addresses the nation but does not resign.

Now people in the country are said to be worried about their country’s fate, with more protests planned to put pressure on Mugabe to quit. ‘Arrogant Mugabe disregards ZANU-PF,’ one of the country’s newspaper headlines said today.

Parliament does not sit on Mondays so any impeachment would have to wait until Tuesday. Some ruling party members say the process of impeachment likely wouldn’t lead to Mugabe’s immediate resignation and could take days to complete.

Zimbabwe’s liberation war veterans, who have been among the most vocal in calling for Mugabe’s resignation, are expected to hold a media briefing at 9.30am. 

Having been sacked by his party, Mugabe has run out of options but appears to be steadfastly clinging to the very last vestiges of power. There was even speculation that he read the wrong speech in his live television address, or skipped over passages about standing down.

Man jailed for 16 months after asking 'dad' to sexually abuse his own baby

A man has been jailed after he tried to get a police officer posing as a father to sexually abuse his four-month-old daughter so he could watch it live online. 

Nathan Potter, 31, had been using chat rooms when an undercover officer saw his comments. The officer said he was the father of a four-month-old girl, who did not actually exist, and Potter asked him to take off the baby’s nappy to sexually abuse her.

Police tracked him down and found more than 270 images of children being sexually abused. Potter, from Nuneaton, Warkwickshire, pleaded guilty to attempting to encourage or incite the sexual abuse of a child under the age of 13. 

He also admitted three charges of possessing indecent images of children, and was jailed for 16 months at Warwick Crown Court on Thursday.

He was ordered to register as a sex offender for an indefinite period, but for a minimum of ten years, and made subject to a sexual harm prevention order until further notice. 

Sentencing Potter, Judge Andrew Lockhart QC said: ‘I find myself absolutely unable to suspend the sentence. ‘You were a man involved in an internet conversation, fully intending that a four-month-old child would be touched.

‘You are a man of 31 years of age, of good character, but between 2011 and 2016 you were a regular accessor of category A, B and C images of children, and you had a very large number of such images. ‘There were a number of images which had been deleted, but they were depraved images that perpetrate the abuse of the children involved. 

‘Much more disturbingly, the analysis of your computer revealed the chat logs in which you engaged with a person you thought was a father who was abusing a four-month-old baby – and you did not just engage once, but on a number of occasions. 

‘You sought to encourage that person, who was an undercover police officer, to abuse that child in appalling ways. 

‘There was no harm because there was no-one to be harmed, happily. ‘But that offending is gravely aggravated by your possession of those indecent images in which the children were very young and there was discernible pain and distress.’

Man rubs crotch on woman on train – not realising she’s a plainclothes police officer

A man repeatedly rubbed his crotch against a woman on the subway, not realising she was a plainclothes police officer. Felipe Mondragon, 52, has now been arrested. The suspect reportedly assaulted the woman on the uptown 6 train that had just left Union Square station in New York City, at around 9am on Thursday. The NYPD officer was on the train with her partner and a sergeant, who were also not in uniform.

Mondragon was immediately arrested and hauled off the train at 23rd Street station. He was then charged with forcible touching and sexual abuse. The detective, who has not been named, was on the subway as part of the NYPD Transit Bureau’s Anti-Crime Squad. The squad patrols subway carriages while in plainclothes in order to try and prevent crime on the network.

Woman, 22, died when boy, 12, jumped from bridge ‘in suicide bid’

A woman was killed when a suicidal 12-year-old boy jumped from a bridge over a US highway onto her car. Marisa W Harris, 22, died at the scene when the boy, who is not being named, fell onto her Ford Escape yesterday afternoon.

The impact of the boy landing on the vehicle incapacitated Marisa and a front seat passenger, believed to be her boyfriend, steered the vehicle onto the hard shoulder. They were driving east along Interstate 66 in Fairfax County, northern Virginia, at around 4.18pm. State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said in a statement that the passenger was unhurt but the boy suffered life-threatening injuries.

Marisa lived in Arlington and was studying clinical counselling at Marymount University. Her family said that she wanted to work with children with severe behavioural problems and was a high-achieving student. Speaking at the family home in Olney, Maryland, Marisa’s mother Leigh Miller said: ‘She was caring – I mean she had an absolute love for children.’ 

She added: ‘She was awesome. I miss her so much.’ Her father, Patrick Harris, said she was outgoing. He said: ‘She was fearless, she was absolutely fearless. She was loved by her friends, she was dearly loved by her family, she was admired by her peers, she was just a shining star.’ The road was closed for several hours while investigations took place throughout the evening.

Plague kills 124 in Madagascar, report says

A plague epidemic in Madagascar has killed 124 people since August in an outbreak that hit the island’s two main cities the hardest, authorities said on Wednesday.

Plague is endemic in Madagascar, but the outbreak that has caused 1,192 suspected cases since August is especially worrying because it started earlier in the season than usual and hit urban rather than rural areas.

In addition, two thirds of the cases are of the pneumonic plague, the deadliest form of the disease.

“The total number of cases (1,192) is already three times higher than the average annual total,” the National Office for Risk and Disaster Management said in a report on Wednesday.

Last week a World Health Organisation report said the death toll stood at 94. The capital Antananarivo and Toamasina, the two largest cities in Madagascar, an island in the Indian Ocean, were the most affected, with 55 per cent of cases recorded there.

To date 54 medical staff have been infected, it said. The report said that of an estimated 9.5 million dollars in aid needed to counter the epidemic, only 3 million dollars has been raised.

Senators from Trump’s own party launch attack on the president

Two senators from Donald Trump’s own Republican Party have launched a blistering attack on the president. The dramatic denunciation laid bare that the GOP at war with itself. Jeff Flake of Arizona declared he would not be ‘complicit’ with Trump and announced his unexpected retirement, while Bob Corker of Tennessee said the president ‘debases our nation’ with constant untruths and name-calling.

Corker, too, is retiring at the end of his term, and the White House shed no tears at the prospect of the two GOP senators’ departures. A former adviser to Steve Bannon, Trump’s ex-strategic adviser, called their departures ‘a monumental victory for the Trump movement,’ and Trump himself boasted to staff members that he’d played a role in forcing the senators out. 

The Senators’ actions are a stunning rebuke of a sitting president from prominent members of his own party – and added to a chorus of criticism of Trump that has been growing louder and more public.

Flake challenged his fellow senators to follow his lead, although there were few immediate signs they would. As fellow lawmakers listened, Flake stood at his Senate desk and delivered an emotional speech in which he dissected what he considered his party’s accommodations with Trump and said he could no longer play a role in them. 

‘We were not made great as a country by indulging in or even exalting our worst impulses, turning against ourselves, glorifying in the things that divide us and calling fake things true and true things fake,’ he said.

Hours earlier, Corker leveled his own searing criticism of Trump in a series of interviews. ‘I think the debasement of our nation will be what he’ll be remembered most for and that’s regretful,’ Corker said. A furious Trump didn’t let that pass unremarked. On Twitter, he called Corker ‘incompetent,’ said he ‘doesn’t have a clue’ and claimed the two-term lawmaker ‘couldn’t get elected dog catcher in Tennessee.’ 

An overstatement to be sure, but White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in regard to the impending retirements: ‘The people both in Tennessee and Arizona supported this president, and I don’t think that the numbers are in the favor of either of those two senators in their states and so I think this was probably the right decision.’

Until Tuesday, Flake had insisted he had no plans to retire. ‘It is clear at this moment that a traditional conservative who believes in limited government and free markets, who is devoted to free trade, who is pro-immigration, has a narrower and narrower path to nomination in the Republican Party,’ he said.

Corker’s retirement plans also underscore the question of what the Republican Party will look like in years to come. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky has warned that some candidates running with the backing of Trump allies could not win general elections. 

And even if they make it to the Senate, certain conservatives could make McConnell’s job even harder as he tries to maneuver legislation through a narrow majority that now stands at 52-48.

Armed police and soldiers raid Manchester city centre flat 'that was rented out as AirBnB' after three more terror suspects are arrested

Heavily armed police raided a city centre flat after three men were arrested at gunpoint in south Manchester in connection with Monday night's bomb attack. Officers and SAS soliders were seen coming out of a block of flats understood to be less than two miles from Manchester Arena where 22 people were killed and at least 119 injured when Salman Abedi blew himself up. 

Greater Manchester Police said three arrests came after officers executed separate warrants in connection with the investigation into Monday night's 'horrific attack' at the Ariana Grande concert. 

Residents said they watched a man and possibly his two sons get frogmarched out of a house in Aston Avenue, Fallowfield, two streets away from a property raided yesterday - the suspected home of suicide bomber Salman Abedi. 

A witness described the arrested man arrested as a 'super-religious Libyan' who hosted Abedi at his home in the past. It follows the arrest of a 23-year-old man arrested yesterday morning in connection with the attack.

Soldiers will be deployed to guard Buckingham Palace and other 'key locations' across Britain in an extraordinary step after Theresa May warned that a fresh terror attack on the UK may be 'imminent'. 

Around 1,000 military personnel will be deployed on Britain's streets in response to the worst terrorist attack for over a decade - the first time such a step has been take in almost 15 years. Troops were seen filing into Parliament and Scotland Yard this morning. 

The Changing of the Guard ceremony has also been cancelled today, the Houses of Parliament are closed to non-passholders and tours have been stopped indefinitely.

North Korea fires missile that lands just 60 miles from Russia

North Korea has fired a ballistic missile that landed just 60 miles from Russia. The secretive nation launched the missile earlier today and it flew 700 km (430 miles) and reached an altitude of more than 2,000 km (1,245 miles).

The rocket stayed airborne for 30 minutes before dropping into the sea between North Korea’s east coast and Japan, which was around 60 miles from Russia. US President Donald Trump said the Kremlin would not be happy with the test.

‘With the missile impacting so close to Russian soil, in fact, closer to Russia than to Japan, the President cannot imagine that Russia is pleased,’ The White House said.

Boy, 13, and his mum die after triple stabbing in family home

A 13-year-old boy and his mum have died after a triple stabbing in their own home. The woman, in her 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene and her 13-year-old son died later in hospital.

The boy’s father Peter Wilkinson, pictured below, has been taken to hospital with stab wounds where his injuries are serious. A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of stabbing following the incident on Greyhound Lane at 8am.

Dudley Police Superintendent Lee Kendrick, said: ‘What has unfolded here this morning is horrific and heart-breaking. Police and ambulance were confronted with an awful scene: a man, woman and boy all with very serious stab injuries

‘The woman and boy were found in the house and the man in the garden.

‘Tragically there was nothing that could be done to save the woman – and her son later died in hospital from his injuries. Our hearts go out to the victims’ family and friends at this devastating news.

‘Clearly our investigation is at a very early stage but we understand the suspect was known to the family and may have been living at the address – although he is not a family relative. We don’t think this was a burglary or a robbery.

‘Our investigation is progressing at pace and we are working to understand exactly what the relationship was between the man and the family.

‘At this stage we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.’

The suspect stole a Land Rover from the large detached house but police arrested him when he crashed the vehicle around 30 minutes later on nearby Norton Road.

Shocking pictures show a mangled police van that residents say was smashed into head-on by the stolen vehicle on Osmaston Road.

Other images show the Discovery 4X4 crumpled after crashing into a wall on Norton Road between Beech Road and Stanley Road.

A woman who lives on Osmaston Road, but who did not want to be named, said: ‘We were in bed when we were suddenly woken up by helicopters circling very low overhead at about 8.15am.

‘About 15 minutes later we heard sirens and went to our window where we saw the smashed police van. There weren’t any other vehicles involved though.

‘We then heard off neighbours that a Land Rover had smashed into a wall on Norton Road.

‘We just thought it was just a stolen car, but now we’ve heard what’s happened it’s awful.

European law will still be used after Brexit, Brexit minister confirms

The Government has been forced to admit that European Union laws and directives will still be in force after Brexit. Yesterday, the triggering of Article 50 marked the beginning of the UK’s two-year countdown to leaving the EU.

While many Leave voters cast their ballot to break the shackles of courts overseas, many EU laws will remain in place until Parliament decides to amend or remove, them according to Brexit Secretary David Davis.

The Great Reform Bill will repeal the 1972 European Communities Act and convert all EU law into British law. Davis said this would provide ‘clarity and certainty’ for businesses and citizens.

One of the key campaign pledges of the Leave campaign during the EU Referendum was making sure foreign judges did not interfere in UK law.

Yet the keen Eurosceptic, Davis, said the Bill will mean: ‘As we exit the EU and seek a new deep and special partnership with the European Union, we will be doing so from the position where we have the same standards and rules.

‘But it will also ensure that we deliver on our promise to end the supremacy of EU law in the UK as we exit.

‘Our laws will then be made in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast and interpreted not by judges in Luxembourg but by judges across the United Kingdom.’

However, despite ‘taking back control’ being a feature of the campaign, it also became apparent laws dating back to Henry VIII which would stop Brexit laws having close Parliamentary scrutiny.

The controversial plan to pass up to 1,000 pieces of secondary legislation without close parliamentary scrutiny is outlined in the Bill itself.

Moving EU law into UK law would delay any reform of workers’ rights being changed. Labour’s Keir Starmer said all existing rights and protections must be maintained as part of measures to convert EU law into the UK system.

Plane crash kills 6 in Zimbabwe

A small aircraft chartered by Mozambican ports company Cornelder crashed near the Mozambique-Zimbabwe border, killing all six occupants according to reports.

It is believed that six people among them four Green Motors Services (GMS) directors died in a plane crash at Vumba Mountain this morning, while the two crew members were a father and son.

According to Zitamar, Cornelder Mozambique, the company using the plane, is a private joint venture between Moçambique Ports and Railways (CFM) and Cornelder Holdings based in Rotterdam, Holland.

The company’s chairman, Adelino Mesquita, was named among the victims of today’s crash. It is believed that the four directors were on their way from Beira to attend a board meeting in Mutare.

Investigations to establish the cause of the accident are underway but preliminary investigations attribute the crash to bad weather. The wreckage of the eight seater plane and body parts of the victims were strewn all over the place near the mountain peak.

Police and army details from Mozambique are at the scene and efforts are underway to take the bodies to Mutare Provincial Hospital Mortuary for post moterms.

Couple arrested for trying to sell baby online

A Tennessee couple has been arrested after attempt to sell their 5-month-old infant online. John David Cain, 26, and Deanna Lynn Greer, 37, were charged with aggravated child abuse and aggravated child neglect or endangerment after they posted an ad on Craigslist and offered to sell the baby for $3,000.

ABC News affiliate reported WATE Saturday, citing the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. The couple was caught in a sting operation that ended on Friday when the two exchanged the baby with state agents for the cash.

Cain and Greer were arrested immediately and taken into custody at the Greene County Jail in Greeneville, Tennessee, according to the report.

They are both being held on a $150,000 bond and scheduled to appear in court during the first week of April. The baby is currently in state custody. It was not immediately clear if the couple had legal representation.

Soldier stabbed his ex-girlfriend 11 times

Jay Nava is accused of murdering Natasha Wake after she was found dead in her Bournemouth home last year. 

Winchester Crown Court heard Nava stabbed Ms Wake 11 times with an eight inch knife after an argument erupted between the two after she discovered he was questioned by police for an alleged sexual assault on another woman. 

The court heard a young child, who was sleeping upstairs, came downstairs and found Nava with blood on him and Natasha on the floor. The child later told officers she saw 'red on the walls', which Nava told her was 'ketchup' and she should return upstairs. 

Mr Nava was later arrested by Dorset Police at Hengistbury Head in Bournemouth after trying to hang himself.
