Manchester United supporters were nervous before kick-off in the derby and this increased when the teamsheets were announced.
United’s first choice back four were all absent, with Raphael Varane left on the bench to add to injured stars Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The team went on to lose 3-0, with City’s cause helped by a very harsh penalty in the first half.
Amid all the worries about the defence, the back four was not really Manchester United’s problem. That was a disjointed midfield and an impotent attack.
Harry Maguire praised
Harry Maguire scored the match winner in midweek for Manchester United against Copenhagen, and he has been back in form recently and getting a run in the side.
That set up an interesting test to see how he would fare against City. And while United were woeful, Harry Maguire acquitted himself well.
The England international defender was discussed positively by supporters after the defeat, via social media.
