NUC restores Joseph Ayo Babalola Varsity licence

The National Universities Commission (NUC) has lifted the suspension of the licence of the Joseph Ayo Babalola University (JABU), Ikeji-Arakeji in Osun State.

This was made public through a letter with reference number NUC/ES/259/Vol.I/219 dated July 16,  this year, which was approved by the Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof Julius Okojie and addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof Sola Fajana.

The NUC had earlier suspended the licence of the university via a letter with reference number NUC/ES/259/Vol.I/211 of July 16, a development which made the university authorities to plead with NUC for understanding.

 Deputy Executive Secretary,  A. S. Agbaoye, said acting on his boss’ instructions the commission noted the actions taken by the university since the sanction.

The actions, he said, included the placement of a newspaper advertisement informing stakeholders of the university and confirming the willingness of the university authorities to comply with NUC directives, and the suspension of the advertised Postgraduate Programmes by the institution.

Others included the stoppage of both the Part-time and Bridge Programmes as directed and "the presentation of all requested documents relating to above".

He said the NUC was satisfied with the actions so far taken by the university, as well as the assurances of the vice-chancellor and the pro-chancellor and chairman of Council and  verification of documents.

"Consequently, I am directed to inform the vice-chancellor that the suspension of the operational licence of JABU has been lifted with effect from July 16, 2012 but the NUC would, however, continue to monitor the university's continuous implementation of the agreed actions, including full compliance with other regulatory guidelines" Agbaoye said.

When contacted, the Vice-Chairman of Council of the university who doubles as a member of the Board of Trustees, Pastor Segun Fasuyi, confirmed the development. -THE NATION
