Boko Haram insurgents in a convoy of Toyota Hilux vehicles and motorcycles attacked Chibok community and carted away several properties and food items, before torching many houses and huts in the early hours of Tuesday.
Chibok is farming and herding community, and 126 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the state capital.
Confirming Tuesday’s incident in Maiduguri, a military source said that the fleeing terrorists from Sambisa Forest, overrun Kautiri village, 10 kilometres from Chibok town by torching over three dozen houses and places of worship at dawn.
“The insurgents carted away several motorcycles, foodstuff and many other properties,” said the military source. “The insurgents invaded our community in the early hours of Tuesday but many of the villagers have already fled. Kautiri had come under Boko Haram attack mid last year,” said an escaped villager in a telephone interview with The Guardian.
Chairman of Chibok Local Government, Mr Ba'ana Lawan also confirmed the attack even as he said no life was lost. “We thank God no life was lost in the attack,” he said. He also said that the vigilante moved into the area on time to save the situation, adding that the attack was repelled by the military and Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)
