The kidnappers of a former NDDC boss, Dominic Oqua, who was kidnapped Sunday night near his home in Calabar South LGA, have demanded N30million ransom for his release. Family sources confirmed the kidnappers have made contact with the family.

“Yes, (the kidnappers) have made contact with us and they are demanding a whopping N30million,” one source said. “Where are we going to get that kind of money from?” When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Hogan Bassey, said he was in a meeting with the Commissioner of Police. A text message sent to his mobile phone to verify the authenticity of the information was left un-replied.

Until his exit from the PDP, Mr. Oqua was the caucus leader in Bakassi LGA.
He decamped to the Labour Party after the parties primaries. PDP in Cross River State has been enmeshed in controversies during the state primaries, leading to the exit of key party loyalists including a serving Senator, Bassey Otu, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Alex Egbonna, who have all decamped to the Labour Party.
