According to Traditional High Chiefs of Ife, led by High Chief Ijadola who addressed the press along with the High Chiefs secretary, High Chief Odewole had faulted the report on the death of Ooni of Ife as rumours. They insisted that Ooni of Ife, Oba Sijuwade is alive. They said this is not the first time rumours like this will spring up about the death of Ooni.
He said in 1982 and 2004 there were rumours of his death and he is always alive. He continued further, that if any news happened, he will be the one to break it. He spoke in Yoruba to the press.
