Husband ‘heard wife being murdered over the phone’

A man has been charged over the alleged murder of a woman whose husband may have heard her being stabbed to death over the phone. Nicola Cross, a 37-year-old mother-of-two, was discovered in her home in Hemel Hempstead by police officers on Monday.

But a friend claimed she had called husband Danny Cross while the intruder was in her house and the 38-year-old IT specialist had heard the attack.

‘Dan heard everything on the other end of the phone. He was working away in Hull at the time,’ the 35-year-old friend, who wanted to remain anonymous, told Mail Online.

‘Dan will never get that call out of his memory. He’ll have that for the rest of his life, knowing that he was too far away and could never have got to her to save her.

‘I just feel sick, it’s devastating. I’ve got three kids and it’s disgusting that they can do that to a woman at home with her children.

‘I feel for her husband and children. Nicola was a wonderful woman.’

Marcin Porczynski, 25, from Claymore Avenue, Hemel Hempstead, has been charged with murder, two counts of kidnap and a burglary at a neighbouring property..

He remains in police custody ahead of his first court appearance today at Hatfield Magistrates’ Court.
A 19-year-old man arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to burgle has been released on police bail until September 24.

Detective Chief Inspector Jerome Kent, from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, added: ‘Nicola’s family remain forefront in our minds at this extremely tragic time. Mrs Cross was pronounced dead at the scene.
