Lacasera has shutdown its operation and immediately sack all its staff. According to InsideMainland. staffs of the company were today disengaged and laid off. One of the staff of the company who spoke to Ezekiel Akinbo of InsideMainland on condition of anonymity said, “workers have been clamouring for a Union which the company have been restricting.
They were rumours that the company is trying to retrench workers unlawfully, so the new members protested peacefully to register the displeasure of workers over the unjust treatment of the workers and it was a peaceful protest and no violence was recorded, this took place on Friday last week.
| Backed by representatives of the National Union of Food, Beverages of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), staff held a peaceful protest on Friday, 11th Sept 2015 |
“But on getting to work this morning we found out that the company has been sealed and a letter pasted on the gate stating that the entire staff have been disengaged. This action is meant to intimidate the workers and we are here to reject this because the workers are paid peanuts which isn’t enough to sustain their living. The workers work 7am to 7am, Monday through Friday and overtime on Saturday and the workers have always complied with the company. But the unjust treatment of the workers by LaCasera is what we ask government to come to our aid and look into this matter.
“When Unionism was demanded for by the workers, a committee was set up in affiliation with the NLC but the management refused to recognise the executive members of the committee and kicked against the union even though the entire staff were clamouring for a Union. The company knows that if there is a union the workers right won’t be trampled upon anymore which they don’t want.”

However, the company in a memo to all staff, obtained by InsideMainland said it cannot guarantee the wellbeing of its staff as well as its continued operations in Nigeria.
“As a result of the unwarranted, illegal break-in and invasion of our business premises on Friday 11th September 2015, we currently cannot guarantee the wellbeing of our esteemed employees, from these hired hoodlums and their collaborators.
“This criminal and malicious action resulted in physical attack on innocent law abiding workers, as well as damage to our business in general. As a result of the unprovoked act of vandalism, we are unable to continue operations under these circumstances.
“Unfortunately, we regret to inform all our staff of their immediate disengagement. In order to ensure speedy processing of your entitlement, staff should come to our representative’s office “TUSEN Consulting” at 5 Balarabe Crescent, Victoria Island in the following order:
Sales, Finance and Admin staff on the 22nd of September 2015
All other departments on the 23rd of September 2015
“Thank you all for your past services and wish you success in your future endeavours – Management”
