Olubadan Throne: Oyediji battles Adetunji in court

Olubadan Throne: Oyediji battles Adetunji in court
Balogun Saliu Adetunji touted to be the next Olubadan
The head of the Seriki chieftaincy line in Ibadan, Chief Adebayo Oyediji has launched a legal bid to stop the installation of High Chief Saliu Adetunji as the automatic successor to Oba Samuel Odulana Odugade as the Olubadan.

Eighty-nine year old Oyediji, along with five other members of the family filed the motion seeking a court order to make the Oyo State Government and the Olubadan-In-Council Oyediji, install him instead of Adetunji, as the Olubadan.

Oyediji and others based their prayer on a 1989 Supreme Court judgment, which ordered the recognition of the Seriki as the third line to produce the Olubadan. He accused the Olubadan-in-council of disobeying the court judgement.

According to the motion filed by his lawyer, A.G. Adeniran, before the Oyo state Chief Judge, Justice Mukthar Abimbola, the Olubadan -in-Council had since 1989 when the Seriki line obtained a Supreme Court judgment in their favour, denied them the opportunity of being admitted into the Olubadan line.

The motion will be heard next Wednesday.
