Boko Haram member who fled from Borno arrested in Ogun state

A fleeing member of the Boko Haram terrorist sect has been arrested by the Ogun state Police Command. The suspect identified as Umaru Muktar, hails from Gonge in Maiduguri, Borno state and was reportedly arrested at Kara – Mowe area of Ogun state on February 25 following a tip-off.

While parading the 22-year-old suspect on Monday at the headquarters of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, FSARS at Magbon, Abeokuta, the state capital, the Commissioner of Police, CP, AbdulMajid Ali, said police investigation revealed that ‘Muktar fled Maiduguri two and half years ago into Ogun State.

Ali stated that the suspect was initiated into the murderous Boko haram organisation by one Mustapha. The CP added that the suspect had confessed to being a member of Boko haram sect.

He said, “Exchange of intelligence between the Command and its counterparts in Borno state coupled with support of members of the Hausa community in Kara, Ogun state, helped in the identification and arrest of Muktar,” the CP said.

Muktar who spoke through an interpreter, declined to disclose if he had participated in any of the sect’s attacks on churches, mosques, markets or motor parks. He told newsmen he left Borno state after the security agencies stepped up manhunt for the sect, adding that he knew few Boko haram members in Borno state.
