Remember the girl who was helped by a homeless man after she became stranded in Euston station?
Well to say thank you, Nicole Sedgebeer has raised more than £10,000 for him.A crowdfunding page set up for the kind stranger, called Mark, was initially set up to raise £8,000 – but at the time of writing it has already hit £10,950.
Nicole had missed her last train home to Milton Keynes after a night out in London, and was left hanging around outside the station in central London at 3am on March 4. It was a dangerous situation for a 21-year-old woman on her own to be in, but luckily Mark – a homeless man who was nearby – helped her out.
He took Nicole, who was ‘about to burst into drunken tears’, to an all-night cafe, and promised to meet her the next morning and walk her back to the station in time for her train. At 5am the next morning, she saw Mark running back down the street to meet her, true to his word – having taken a bus to get there.
‘Not only did he turn up, but he had to get a bus to come get me,’ Nicole said.
‘This man, who I probably would have avoided eye contact with if he asked for spare change, completely changed such a negative event into the most eye-opening event in my life.
‘Mark, you are one special man.’
Her original post went viral, and was shared more than 18,000 times on Facebook. She said: ‘Best birthday gift ever seeing how much people have donated for Mark. Thank you to everyone who’s helped us hit our target. Let’s keep going!’
