Singer Prince ‘died of an overdose’ according to an official. Prince was found dead at his Minneapolis mansion back in April aged 57. Associated Press say a law enforcement official confirmed that the singer died of an overdose of the powerful painkiller fentanyl.

They add that the official ‘spoke on condition of anonymity’ as ‘he was not authorised to speak to the media’.

Before his death Prince took ill on a flight and had to be rushed to hospital. He had also cancelled two shows due to illness. It recently came to light that the Raspberry Beret singer was in talks to headline Glastonbury this year.

Founder Michael Eavis said he came very close to reaching a deal. He told The Sun: ‘I was going to meet his agent, it was all planned but it didn’t happen.

‘His death was so sad. That’s a real star that we never had.’
