Raymond Moreton, 86, has physically blocked BT workers from upgrading a telephone box, pictured with Mr Moreton, on his property in Yelverton, Norfolk, claiming it would devalue his house by £50,000.
The pensioner claims his garden would be constantly 'trampled' by engineers, top right, and their visits would cause traffic to build up outside his home. But the dispute has left neighbours annoyed and confused, claiming they are putting up with 'extremely slow' internet and that they 'don't understand what his beef is' with the upgrade.
The former aircraft mechanic has even called the police in after workers turned up at his home, bottom right. BT say it will be unable to provide high-speed broadband to the whole village unless it can upgrade the box, and the firm has gone to Norfolk Council over the issue, with the highways department suggesting changing the property's boundaries, inset, to bring the box outside Mr Moreton's land, something he is resisting.
